Amara Beauty Identity

Amara Beauty Identity
Beauty products

Overview

Amara Beauty is a luxury beauty brand based in Abuja, specializing in skincare products made from locally sourced African botanicals. The brand needed a complete identity system positioning it as premium in both Nigerian and international markets.

The Challenge

African beauty brands face a perception gap — seen as too "ethnic" for global markets or too westernized for local authenticity. Amara needed an identity celebrating African heritage while communicating luxury and modernity.

Research & Discovery

I conducted a brand audit of 20 competing beauty brands across Nigeria, South Africa, and international luxury markets. I studied color psychology in beauty packaging and explored traditional Igbo textile patterns as design inspiration.

The color palette draws from Nigerian earth tones — warm terracotta, deep cocoa, and gold leaf accents — creating a distinctly African luxury aesthetic.

Design Process

I explored over 40 logo concepts, narrowing to 5 directions tested with a focus group. The final logomark combines a stylized Adinkra symbol representing beauty and wisdom with modern typography.
